A bit late uploading this piece. I drew the outline using a Pitt fineliner on some A4 before scanning it in and editing it in photoshop.

I’ve been a bit obsessed with drawing chickens/roosters recently, so it made sense to create a note based on some sketches I had done. After bringing the sketch I had done into photoshop, I added a few watercolour textured layers to it and played with some masking. I then messed around with some difference and exclusion layers to get the overall outcome.

My sixth note in the series, based on the 1000 rupee note. Created purely in photoshop this time. I really like the pink and deep purple combination for this.

A doodle from a sketchbook. Lineart done in illustrator. Colour in photoshop. Inspired by Andy warhols Dollar sign 3.bp.blogspot.com/_n5qdHxJxh1w/RZ-7vDbhfPI/AAAAAAAAAB4/K4…
I sketched out a jellyfish in biro, then scanned the image in. I used a soft brush to paint colour as well as masking some watercolour texture. I played around with the opacity of the layers then added an exclusion layer to finish it off.

17/01/2010 - Collage £17
For the layout of the design, I was inspired by the 50 Euro note. I literally got a magazine and cut out pieces and stuck them together using pritt stick. This was scanned in and edited slightly in photoshop. Really enjoyed the technique of making this. The scope of the design was limited to what I could find and cut out of the magazine though. I might possibly explore this technique further by combining hand drawn elements to it aswell.
10/01/2010 - ‘Blood Money’
For this note, I went back to making a simple character-focused bank note. I love drawing octopus’. I sketched this one out one as a bandit. Each of his tentacles holds out a pistol.
I sketched out the octopus originally on paper before doing all the line work in illustrator. I then brought it into photoshop to colour in. Coming up with the colour scheme was pretty straightforward.

Kept it fairly simple with the first bank note. The deadline was the 3rd of January so I decided to create a note with a value £3. The ‘3’ inspired me to create a 3D inspired look to this note. I was tempted to add a 3d polygon mesh of the Queen so it looked more like a £20 english banknote. It was over-complicated and didn’t look too good in sketch form.
This was a lot easier to create, sketch imported into illustrator, then brought into photoshop to experiment with multiply layers.

I have been terrible at drawing/illustrating/blogging work last year. In 2010 this will change.
I have decided to set myself the challenge of illustrating 52 bank note designs.
Why banknotes?
I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with drawing them recently. Also, as part of sho collective, we are planning on putting a money themed exhibition soon.
By forcing a deadline at the end of each week, I should be producing a lot more content on a regular basis. I can’t guarantee all of it will be good, but hopefully I’ll produce some real gems ;)
If you’re like me and you need an excuse to get some ideas down in illustrating form, feel free to take part in this challenge.
